TOWNSHIP
OF MARPLE
REFUSE
REGULATIONS
As we
enter another year of municipal refuse collection, it is apparent that the type
of refuse collection service we all want requires the full cooperation of both
residents and employees of the Refuse Department. Our goals are the same;
consistent service, neat and sanitary community appearance and reasonable
working conditions for the collectors.
If you will do your part by observing the regulations set forth below,
we will do our best to provide you with the finest service possible.
1. Collections:
Curb Service: Twice weekly collection will continue
throughout the year on a
Monday/Thursday
or Tuesday/ Friday schedule.
Rear Service: A maximum of three (3) containers of normal
household refuse will
be collected from the rear property at any time for an
additional fee
payable at the time of billing. Any additional containers may be
placed at the curb. In
the case of snow and/or ice, a clear path must
be maintained from the containers to the curb. This will
assure
continued, uninterrupted service during the winter months.
2. Containers: It
is necessary that all containers used for normal, household refuse
meet
the following regulations:
A.
Be thirty (30) gallon trashcans, or strong plastic bags.
B. Have handles, not be overfilled and be
secured with lids.
C.
Be watertight, free of defects liable to cause injury and not weigh more
than
50 pounds. Wet refuse is not acceptable at the Delaware
County Transfer
Station
and will not be collected.
D.
Be
maintained in a sanitary condition, and for rear collection, at one easily
accessible location outside of any building.
The collectors will not go into any structure such as a garage to
collect the refuse.
3. REFUSE PREPARATION:
Unconfined garbage will not be
collected. Please place garbage and loose items in
plastic bags within the garbage cans.
A.
Brush,
grass and similar materials will be collected from the curb only. Brush
must be
securely tied in bundles, not placed in trash cans and not to exceed
three feet in
length and two feet in diameter to meet Transfer Station
requirements.
4. Special
Collections:
A special
collection will be held each month for materials not accepted by the
County Transfer Station.
The following materials are not acceptable for regular
collection: discarded furniture, major appliances, carpets,
large toys, bicycles,
stones, dirt, metal, plaster, trees, grills, lawn furniture,
etc. Such items may be
placed at the curb as a special collection by paying a fee
of $10.00 per item.
Special
collection items must be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the morning
of the collection and all loose materials must be in
disposable containers.
NO
REFUNDS WILL BE MADE!
The day assigned for special collection
is the third Wednesday of each month.
You may
sign up in person at the Municipal Building or by mail. If signing up
by mail please make checks payable to Marple Township and
include your
name, address and a list of what items you wish to have
picked up. The
collectors will only
pick up what has been requested.
